We won the competition for the new sports center in Les Corts looking for optimal integration with the neighborhood
AIA, together with Anna Noguera Arquitectura, have been winners of the competition of ideas promoted by Bimsa and the City Council of @ Barcelona.cat for the drafting of the project for the expansion and recovery of the “Island Pavilion”, located in the neighbourhood of Les Corts.
Located in the same place as the current pavilion, the proposal presents a light building with polycarbonate facades and a wooden structure that create a volume that “floats” over the Ithaca and Lissieux schools. The new facility contains two tracks located on two levels, one on top of the other. We also incorporate a south-facing green façade over the schoolyard. In this way, we protect the pavilion from the sun and give a friendlier and more welcoming appearance to what is now a very hard built complex.
The location of the building concerning the urban space allows us to create a square/lobby as access to the sports centres from a porch where the interior and exterior space are mutually enriched. At the same time, we strengthen the relationship between the project and the interior space of L’illa Diagonal and the gardens of Sant Joan de Deu from the openings we propose for the new pavilion. The construction is completely dry and the sustainable materials and concepts are the backbones of the project.
Construction on the new pavilion is set to begin in the summer of 2023, and we hope it will become iconic work for the neighbourhood and the city!
