Palladium Hotels Group entrusted us with the project for the complete renovation of this hotel with 264 rooms distributed over 19,150 m2, located in a cove in the north of Menorca, with the aim of repositioning it as a four-star family hotel in accordance with its strategic plan.
The original building was constructed in 1974 according to the deficiencies of that period: metal structure without corrosion protection, one-way slabs with little reinforcement, ceramic walls without insulation, carpentry with high transmittance, etc. After 40 years in operation, we proposed a comprehensive action in architectural, structural, regulatory and sustainability and energy consumption terms.
In terms of structural interventions, all the floor slabs were reinforced with mullions and new staircases were built at the ends of the building, which, in addition to ensuring proper evacuation, brace the building. The ceramic façade was externally clad with a SATE system providing continuous insulation without thermal bridges. In addition, large louvres were designed to protect the glazing and all the joinery was renewed. The building was awarded in the Re Think Hotel 2019 category for the Best Sustainability and Hotel Refurbishment Project.
