A friendly building is proposed, which unfolds in the surroundings of a new garden open to the city, where the articulation of the volumes responds to the desire to create differentiated spaces within the new library: reading, consultation and study spaces of domestic dimension that ensure comfort and tranquillity for users, a magnificent double raised children's area, training and citizen attention areas, music and image areas with a recording studio, bar-restaurant services and even a gaming area. More than just a library, it is a new meeting point for the city, leading a new model of socio-cultural spaces. Citizens will see, from Paseo de la Generalitat, a new garden and an open library, the interior activity of which is perfectly visible from the street. The façade is an outstanding element, specially designed so that all the spaces of the library enjoy magnificent natural, filtered and controlled lighting, while at the same time allowing a good view of the trees, the new garden and the old town from any corner of the reading spaces. Ten large trees have been planted in the garden, one for each of the victims of the 1991 terrorist attack that took place on the site of the old Guardia Civil barracks. Thus the garden is, above all, a commemorative space that pays homage to the victims of terrorism, but it is also a space that can be used by library users as a place to relax and rest, to read in the shade of the trees. Its slight inclination towards the interior means that floor -1 has excellent lighting conditions and can be accessed independently from the main entrance.
